The Kenya Universities Professional Counselors Association (KUPCA) was founded in 2005 as a forum for training peer counselors. the first meeting was held at Tangaza College, a constituent college of Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA). Four universities attended the first meeting namely JKUAT, U.O.N, Tangaza College represented and CUEA. Hence KUPCA was founded by a few members who were focused and strong willed. Currently we have over 30 members attending each meeting; with over 20 universities and university colleges represented. We shall not lose vision of the 6 founder members and the 4 initial institutions.

The need to incorporate all Kenya universities was later realized on 23rd October, 2007 at Egerton university then we have held meetings in various universities namely: Egerton, Kenyatta, JKUAT, Moi, Masinde Muliro, Pwani University College, Chuka |University, U.O.N, Kenya Methodist University, University of eastern Africa –Baraton, Kabarak University, St Paul’s University, Kisii University, University of Eldoret, Mt, Kenya University, Africa Nazarene and today we are at St.Paul’s University fot the 2nd time. We also have an offer of a venue of our next meeting in 2015 at Dedan Kimathi University.

KUPCA was officially registered in Kenya in January 2011, after a long process of vetting by the National Security Intelligence Services (NSIS). (This indicates that the Association is considered a serious one and important by the government of Kenya).
