Leadership

KUPCA is headed by a highly experienced and committed executive leadership team. The team is charged with the role of developing the organization’s strategic direction, as well as developing and guiding the execution of the requisite plans to ensure the achievement of the organization’s mission and vision. KUPCA's senior leadership comprises:

 

DR Lilian Nyagaya - Chairperson
Dr. Lillian is a Counselling Psychologist by profession (International Certified Addiction Professional Level three) and also a Lecturer at Egerton University. She is also the current chairperson of KUPCA, a position that she has held for the last six years. Prior to this, she was the organization’s vice-chairperson from 2014 to 2016.

At Egerton University, Dr. Lillian serves as the assistant dean of students in charge of counselling for staff and students and supervises 13 counsellors. She also lectures in the Department of Psychology and Counselling. Dr. Lillian ensures that staff wellbeing is taken care of under the employee assistant’s programme.

Outside the University, Dr, Lillian is a life member of the Kenya Red Cross Society of Kenya and a mental health champion. Her area of specialization is trauma and addiction studies.


 

Patrick O. Obel - The Treasurer

Patrick is a counselling psychologist at USIU-Africa. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Bible and Theology from PAC University and a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology from Daystar University.

Patrick currently works as a Senior Counselor at USIU Africa. He is part of a team responsible for providing comprehensive, quality, sustainable, preventive, supportive and curative counselling psychological services that help the USIU-Africa community members with a variety of personal, academic, occupational, social and emotional concerns. Previously, he worked as a University Counselor and Acting Dean of Students at PAC University.

Patrick is an ordained Pastor serving at Ongata Rongai Fountain of Hope Chapel. He is also the director of the Life Skills for Behavior Change Center (LBCC) a local Non-Governmental Organization targeting the youth and their caregivers. This is besides being an Executive Member of Kenya Universities Professional Counselors’ Association (KUPCA), an Executive Member of Kenya Psychological Association (KPA), and Member of the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ISTSS). Patrick is also a Life coach and certified Trainer of Trainers (TOT).



Dr Catherine Amulundu - Vice Chairperson
Dr. Catherine is a Clinical Psychologist working at the University of Nairobi. She holds a PhD in Clinical Psychology and specializes in Substance Abuse prevention and management.

Dr. Catherine has a special interest in the use of technology for mental health interventions among young adults, which also makes her a key area of study. She is a facilitator in mental health training for diverse audiences.
